Lisbon – The Capital City

Lisbon apart from obviously being the capital city of Portugal is a city offering both coastal and hilly delights. It is one of the oldest cities going to back to 1200 BC and I could feel the same while walking down this charismatic city. This city is all about warm and sunny temperatures and nice people everywhere. Every now and then, every stranger I met either smiled at me or wished me a great day ahead. This is what the spirit of Lisbon City is.

Adeia Velha De Monsanto

Lisbon offered me various villages to visit while I was touring and one of the most beautiful of them all was Aldeia Velha de Monsanto. This village was built during the 1200 BC and since it has been the same. This village is filled by ancient tiles and pavements taking us years back and was built in such a way, where it’s accompanied with Granite Mountains around it. You can feel the smell of it while you’re strolling down this village. This depicts the oldest history of Lisbon By depicting it’s a most iconic landmark of “Huge rock sitting on top of the house”.

Oceânario De Lisbâo

This is the largest indoor underwater aquarium around the whole of Europe. It holds approximately 16000 aquatic animals and it keeps on adding. When I entered this it was absolutely breathtaking. The chill and the blue nature of the sea, you can feel it all down there. It also offers you to have a dining experience with those aquatic animals. The largest tank here boasts to be 5000 m3 and presents the rarest fish of all – The Sunfish.

Lisbon holds many major historical attractions for Portugal and one of those oldest architectures is the bookshop/library, Bertrand. It has been opened in Lisbon since 1732 and the building has remained the same since. It holds over 60000 books. It has a very calm theme to it, you can choose the book you want and trust me, you will be spoilt for choices and can just sit and read it.

Lagos is one of the most cultural heritage cities in Portugal. This city has a certain kind of character to it that I felt while touring around it. It is situated on the beautiful western Algarve.  Along the coastline, this city boasts the dramatic splendid scenes and its heritage. This is the most loved holiday destination in all the Algarve.

Ponta Da Piedade

It is a few minutes south of the center of Lagos city. This is the highlight of the Lagos touring. This places ranges from cliffs, the outcrops and stacked yellow and red limestone’s, which are at a height of 20 meters. It is surrounded by gnarled walls and the shimmery crystal water below it. I took one of the kayak tours that are offered here, it is a very scenic and beautiful experience, and it also took me under the caves and natural arches. I went for a barefoot walk in the water, it is very dreamy.

Museu Municipal Dr Jose Formosinho

With so much tourist infrastructure to offer, this city remains the one with an absorbing story to tell about its heritage and history. I was very keen to make the most out of these attractions and they were absolutely amazing. This museum is the largest museum, inaugurated in 1934. It contains chapters and souvenirs from the Neolithic period through the Luso-lberians and the Romans, since the age of discovery. It offers various coins and the model of the city at that time and the tools used for local trades.

Dolphin Spotting

Another thing Lagos is famous for is Dolphin spotting. There are several companies that offered rigid-hulled inflatable boats. The trip lasts for about two hours. I don a wind resistant jacket and powered out to the open ocean. The dolphins I was able to spot were bottlenose dolphins and Risso’s dolphins.

Kyoto was the capital city of Japan once, during which it was known to be the most beautiful city in all Japan. And it still proudly holds its title. However, being known for its historical importance, I was appalled to see it’s an urban atmosphere which overshadows its incredible heritage and amazing historical sites. Kyoto is home to a number of temples and shrines, and also holds very reputed Zen gardens. This city is titled as a very spiritual city, beholding its culture all the way. Here are some of the places I visited and found worth traveling and exploring.

Nijō Castle

This beautiful and majestic castle is surrounded by hills around it and is completed with high towers and moats and ancient but preserved walls. It was created in 1603 and at that team was served as the seat for the parliamentary government. The best highlights I thought about this castle were it’s a main entrance from the east side, also called the Higashi Otemon. It is a sight to behold. Apart from that, the most important building of the castle is the Ninomaru Palace which links five different buildings by a sleek corridor. While taking the castle tour, we were taken to the Nightingale floor, which creaks while making the nightingale sounds.

Nishi Hongan-Ji Temple

Of all the numerous amounts of temples Kyoto holds, this one is the oldest and chief temple and is one of the best architectures representing the Buddhist. The temple after natural disaster was rebuilt in 1760, with highlighting its most prominent features like rooms with gold backgrounds decorated by fine paintings. But only a few parts of this temple are open to the local public or the visitors, so you’ll need to make arrangements in advance. The temple still holds very effective importance historically in the hearts of people.

The Kilkenny city is only 20 km away from Dublin city and is remarked as the second capable city when it comes to attractions. The city has an ancient charm to its nature and is appreciated. The streets in the city are very narrow and you can tour the whole city on your foot, saving yourselves the transportation costs. It is known for its agricultural importance and great fertilization. The discovery of the town is very scenic and provides tourists with beauty and elegance. Being an ancient town, it still holds modern civilization very close to her.

Kilkenny Castle and Park

The park will give you major feels like you are starring in a periodic drama and is situated at a very steep height. The major architectural cultures are found in this castle, it contains the history of its warriors and their fights and their various tools used in any such fights. The castle was built in the early thirteenth century. The castle remained as a residence for the Butler family for over 600 years. It also houses 20 hectares of gardens and plants around it.

The Black Abbey

The black abbey is the oldest church the city holds. It is located between the parliament street and the high town. Every evening a parade is held through the streets in front of the church and is a sight to never miss. You can visit the church only in the morning slot and can be a part of the prayers. It is very peaceful and calming. Being holding such an important historical value, this is a must visit.

Dunmore Cave

The cave is based on the 15 km far outskirt stretch of the city and is the favorite spot for adventure junkies. The caves involve several heritage coins and bones and ancient keepers. Also, several assigned tours are held for the cave in the night. You have to sign up for it in advance, as it is very popular around. The cost for such tour is around 400 Euros.
